It may strike new owners as quite some length to go to, but we appreciate you reading through these guides and policies so we can help you prepare the best you can for your new friends, and we hope you appreciate how worth while it is.
We adopt out our rats in a minimum or pairs, unless it is a special situation. Please enquire if you fall into this bracket.
All rats leave us with a signed contract. Rats adopted from us are strictly pet and show only.
If you intend breeding please notify us when applying so we can discuss it. Although they are contracted for showing, this is not a guarantee that they will win or fall to a perfect standard.
Part of the agreement we come to when adopting our rats is that you respond to our 6 monthly emails or letters regarding the wellbeing and health of the rats, this helps us to monitor all the rats bred by us to ensure we make accurate plans regarding the health and temperament of the line in the future. This also means we would ask you to keep us updated of any changes to contact details Also, to alert us should a death occur.
We will happily be contactable to help, advise and assist in anyway we can from application admission all the way through to the death of the rat.
Please note that I really prefer owners of Redwall rats to use a bedding that is not wood based.
If you are under 18 we will need to speak to a parent or guardian before ownership consideration.
If you rent your home we do insist on obtaining proof of permission to keep animals by your landlord or agent.
Unfortunately too many rats have ended up returned to breeders because of this situation.
We do hope you take our advice regarding diet, it can prove to be a very important element to keeping healthy rats. Although we can't expect owners of fewer rats to go to the lengths we do for their feed mix, we hope you may adjust your own feeds to be as iddeal as you can.
Rats do need a lot of contact with their owners. They bond to you, and thrive on your attention. Rats are not ornamental pets and need regular play time, handling and regular clean outs. If you spend a lot of time away from home or otherwise feel you can't give the rats the kind of attention they deserve, by all means get in touch and we can discuss whether we can sensibly fit rats into your lifestyle.
